Kudan announces the launch of a new machine map platform service designed for machine intelligence
Tokyo, August 7, 2019ーKudan Inc. (“Kudan”) is pleased to announce the launch of a new machine map platform service which will allow precise automated navigation of self-driving cars, drones and AGVs (automated guided vehicles) with error minimized to as little as a few millimeters.
A machine map platform is, as the name suggests, a platform which makes possible the creation and utilization of machine maps optimized through artificial intelligence-based processing rather than human intervention. By optimizing data formats for use by machine intelligence rather than using the map formats based on language, color and shape understood by human beings, a wide range of previously impenetrable problems can be solved. Kudan’s machine map platform service provides a range of functions which enable the creation and utilization of such maps for processing by machine intelligence.
This platform provides the means for the flexible creation of map data derived from a wide range of autonomously controlled smart machines, from self-driving cars, drones and AGVs to domestic robots. This data can then be consolidated in the cloud, merged with existing map data, and updated in real-time as conditions within the mapped area change. The platform features the integration of a broad spectrum of functionality, rendering possible the creation of maps using just cameras or LiDARs on the edge end of the network, or the combination of these with a range of other sensors to allow the simultaneous realization of high accuracy levels and low loads. In addition to this, the platform also features other advanced functions allowing the autonomous operation of smart machinery, including the ability to create and continuously update machine maps based on acquired data, the ability to integrate multiple machine maps, the ability to navigate a machine’s own position within these maps, the ability to integrate machine maps with HD maps (high-definition 3D maps) or satellite maps, and the ability to consolidate independent edge processing and cloud processing via the 5G network.
By making use of Kudan’s machine map platform, it will be possible, at low cost, to confer map creation and navigation functionality upon each and every device within a network consisting of vast numbers of smart machines. Furthermore, by granting them the ability to utilize dynamic mapping and navigation functionality, smart machines already equipped with sensors such as cameras or LiDARs will provide significantly increased value to any system they are a part of.
Moving forward, Kudan plans to continue to produce technical innovation in the field of artificial perception (AP), providing products which will exert a significant impact on a wide range of industries.
