Kudan Inc. (hereinafter “Kudan”) is pleased to announce an expansion of its collaboration with UCS Co., Ltd. (“UCS”), a leading Korean mapping and automation solutions provider, into robotics applications and broadcast solution integration. This expansion builds on the companies’ successful partnership in mobile mapping scanner development and ongoing commercial deployments powered by Kudan’s LiDAR SLAM technology.

Proven Collaboration to Date

Since the start of the collaboration, UCS has successfully commercialized a handheld mobile mapping solution incorporating Kudan’s LiDAR SLAM software. The solution delivers high-precision, real-time 3D mapping across complex indoor and outdoor environments.

The product has seen steady market adoption across infrastructure inspection, industrial measurement, and research applications, validating both the technical robustness and the commercial viability of Kudan’s spatial perception technology in real-world operations.

This track record has established a strong technical and commercial foundation between the two companies, positioning the partnership for broader expansion into adjacent domains where real-time spatial understanding is critical.

Strategic Expansion to Robotics and Broadcasting

Building on this momentum, Kudan and UCS will jointly pursue business development in robotics, with a focus on solutions that leverage Kudan’s Spatial Perception technology as a core enabler of Physical AI.

By combining real-time localization, mapping and environmental understanding, the collaboration aims to support autonomous navigation, spatial awareness, and decision-making capabilities required by next-generation service and industrial robots operating in complex, dynamic environments, addressing the accelerating demand for robotics-driven automation in the Korean market, particularly across manufacturing, logistics, and service sectors.

In parallel, the partners will jointly promote the commercial deployment of broadcast and XR-enabled solutions using Kudan VANTAGE, as previously announced, targeting live sports events in Korea. By delivering high-precision, low-latency camera tracking, virtual production, and immersive viewing experiences, the collaboration will support next-generation sports broadcasting workflows and enhance audience engagement. This initiative extends the partnership into intelligent media systems, where accurate, real-time spatial perception is a critical foundation for both live and virtual productions.

The expansion of collaboration aligns with growing industry trends toward autonomy and spatial computing, where accurate and real-time perception, mapping, and localization are key enablers for robots and intelligent media systems alike. Kudan’s deep expertise in SLAM and Spatial Perception complements UCS’s strengths in system integration and market deployment in Korea.

Adopted Theme
R&D on a Software Development Platform in the Robotics Field for the Construction Market

Project Period
From FY2025 to FY2027 (planned)

Details of the Public Call (Japanese only)
https://www.nedo.go.jp/koubo/CD3_100400.html
https://www.nedo.go.jp/news/press/AA5_101875.html

Kudan’s R&D Role
As the research and development leader for standard software modules, Kudan will develop a reference model※2 for next-generation autonomous mobile robot software.

Kudan’s Contribution

In Japan’s industrial sectors, particularly in the construction industry, the aging of skilled workers and chronic labor shortages have become pressing issues, making the introduction of robotics technologies indispensable for improving productivity. The construction industry faces unique challenges, such as hazardous operations and complex and dynamic work environments, where robots must perform diverse tasks and operate safely alongside human workers. Current robotic systems, however, often lack development flexibility due to the tight coupling of hardware and software, and face difficulties in autonomous decision-making and action.

Through this project, Kudan aims to establish a “general-purpose autonomous navigation technology” that transcends conventional autonomous driving technologies limited to controlled environments, enabling flexible adaptation to unpredictable and rapidly changing environments such as actual construction sites. The outcomes of this development are expected to extend well beyond construction, with potential applications in logistics, manufacturing, infrastructure inspection, and agriculture.

Furthermore, by leveraging the characteristics of post-5G networks, such as high capacity, low latency, and massive simultaneous connectivity, Kudan will develop high-performance autonomous navigation software modules with enhanced robustness, adaptability, and real-time processing capabilities, enabling coordinated operations among multiple robotic terminals. Building on its proven track record and deep technical expertise in spatial perception and autonomous mobility areas, Kudan will fully leverage its knowledge to drive this project forward. In addition, through this project, Kudan will contribute to defining a “general-purpose autonomous navigation technology specification,” incorporating cloud-edge communication interfaces, interoperability between software and hardware, and common standard specifications with scalability. This will enable the establishment of a reproducible reference model, capable of flexibly responding to complex environments.

Through this initiative, Kudan aims to help solve social challenges such as labor shortages and safety concerns, while accelerating the practical implementation and widespread industrial adoption of next-generation autonomous technologies, ultimately contributing to the realization of a more sustainable society.

*1 About the Construction RX Consortium
The Construction RX Consortium is a private-sector organization established to promote “Robotic Transformation (RX)” in the construction industry. It aims to address key challenges such as workforce decline, productivity improvement, and safety enhancement through the development and adoption of construction robots, IoT applications, and related technologies.

*2 About Reference Models
A reference model provides standard specifications and design examples that serve as a common template for product development. These models help ensure product interoperability and improve development efficiency across organizations and developers.

About Kudan Inc.
Kudan leads the advancement of next-generation solutions such as robotics, autonomous driving, and digital twins through research and development, as well as the provision of spatial perception algorithms that connect the physical and digital worlds. Originating from the United Kingdom, Kudan is a global company that, with innovative artificial perception technology (the “eyes” of machines) at its core. By extending the application of artificial intelligence from the digital space into the physical space, Kudan aims to fundamentally solve social issues and dramatically improve productivity by promoting automation, unmanned operation, and remote accessibility across all industries.
