(headquarters in Shibuya-ku; CEO Daiu Ko; hereafter “Kudan”), an artificial perception research and development company, is pleased to announce that Artisense GmbH (hereafter “Artisense”), Kudan’s group company, together with NNG and HERE Technologies published a white paper, “Augmented reality guidance based on 6D positioning and HD lanes”, explaining how AR navigation is achieved using SLAM and HD map. This is just one of many potential applications in ADAS (Advanced Drivers Assistance Systems) and safety features Kudan and Artisense can contribute to, such as lane change assist and intelligent speed assist.</p>

<p>This white paper is based on Artisense’s collaboration with <a href="https://www.here.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">HERE Technologies</a> and <a href="https://www.nng.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">NNG</a>. The section “HD positioning based on visual inertial odometry” describes how Artisense SLAM and visual inertial odometry contribute to this application.</p>
<p>This AR navigation is a key area where many automotive OEMs see value. Mercedes already launched a model with this function last year and others such as Cadillac and Hyundai are planning to install this functionality to differentiate themselves. *<br />

It’s a demo for now, but we can’t wait to see this type of experience in all cars in the future &#8211; not just for human drivers, but autonomous vehicles as well.</p>
<p>The test vehicle is equipped with a simple GNSS receiver, and a stereo-inertial camera system, and uses map data and simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) technology to understand and navigate through its environment, and create this powerful visualization.</p>
<p>NNG, creator of next-generation navigation experiences, using map information from HERE Technologies, and the intelligent lane level 6DoF (degrees-of-freedom) positioning capabilities from Artisense, showed off their eye-opening demo in a real road and highway scenario.</p>
