KudanSLAM localization & mapping software is now compatible with Qualcomm® Robotics RB3 Platform
05.08.2020
~This enables easier access to Kudan’s software for robotics OEMs with Qualcomm collaboration~
Kudan Inc. (headquarters in Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; Managing Director Tomo Ohno) is pleased to announce that now Kudan localization & mapping software (KudanSLAM) has compatibility with the Qualcomm Robotics RB3 Platform to showcase its adaptability to wider range of hardware and pave the way for robotics OEMs to access KudanSLAM more easily.
Kudan software is now compatible with the Qualcomm Robotics RB3 platform, which provides robotics OEMs with a flexible and high-performance robotics development solution. Kudan has tailored KudanSLAM for compatibility with the Qualcomm Robotics RB3 platform. This platform has a Qualcomm® Kryo™ 385 CPU (up to 2.8 GHz) and supports the development of smart, power-efficient, and cost-effective robots. Dev Singh, senior director of business development and head of autonomous robotics, drones, and intelligent machines at Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. commented, “This collaboration can accelerate product development for many robotics OEMs since SLAM is an important but challenging component for robots. This work also showcases how KudanSLAM is adaptable for a wider range of hardware setup from high-end hardware to lower-cost hardware, depending on the needs. This lowers the bar for creating complex robot behaviors through easier access to the KudanSLAM software for robotics OEMs.”
This combination can deliver more robustness and faster processing for robotics OEMs compared to what is available in the market. KudanSLAM demonstrates its capability by running SLAM at more than 20 fps on this platform at maximum, much faster with less memory and CPU usage than ORB-SLAM2, while maintaining cm level accuracy for several tens-of-meters scale. Further details of our performance are available upon request.
Kudan will continue to accelerate its collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies to deliver further enhancements. Currently, processing is mainly on the CPU, and Kudan is planning to accelerate processing it by leveraging the GPU and DSP technologies available on the Qualcomm Robotics RB3 platform. Kudan also plans to support upcoming generations of Qualcomm Technologies’ robotics platform to continue to deliver better hardware and software packages for the robotics use-cases.
