Kudan announces sponsorship of the autonomous vehicle development group, SeDriCa IIT Bombay backed up by industry leaders

Kudan Inc. (Headquarter: Shibuya-ku Tokyo, CEO: Daiu Ko, hereafter, “Kudan”) is pleased to announce that since January 2021, Kudan has become a sponsor of Team SeDriCa, IIT Bombay autonomous vehicle development group and has provided its Lidar SLAM※1 software to enable Team SeDriCa to develop a level 4 autonomous vehicle capable of navigating the streets of India through this sponsorship.

 

Kudan provides mapping and localization software for global automotive OEMs and various autonomous robot manufacturers around the world. Kudan’s GrandSLAM※2 software uses Lidar and/or cameras, combined with inertial sensors, GPS, and other sensors to create an accurate map and determine its position in the world. Kudan is proud to support Team SeDriCa with our state-of-the-art Lidar SLAM software to help develop a fully autonomous vehicle solution. The team’s efforts have drawn sponsors from various industry leaders such as Continental, NVIDIA, Texas Instruments, Ouster, and Velodyne.

In 2017, Team SeDriCa won the 25th Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition (IGVC)※3 and started working on their current autonomous vehicle platform to compete in the Mahindra RISE Challenge.

As part of Team SeDriCa’s quest to develop India’s first self-driving car with Level 4 Autonomy, capable of driving under Indian road conditions, Kudan is providing its Lidar SLAM software to enable Team SeDriCa to create scalable, high-quality maps to be used by vehicles, as well as help the vehicles navigate within these maps.

Kudan is looking to benefit from this sponsorship by demonstrating a core use case of our technology and showcasing its performance in one of the most dynamic and challenging environments for autonomous driving.

※：SLAM (simultaneous localization and mapping) is a technology which allows devices to simultaneously self-locate and create maps of their surrounding environment. Kudan owns SLAM technology utilizing both cameras and Lidar sensors, and has successfully combined these to further develop low-latency, high-precision, high-stability technology.
