Kudan Inc. (headquarters in Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; CEO Daiu Ko, hereafter “Kudan”), a leading provider of simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) solutions across multiple industries and applications, has announced that Kudan Visual SLAM (KdVisual) is now compatible with the TDA4VM processor from Texas Instruments (hereafter “TI”) and their new 8 TOPS TDA4VM processor starter kit (SK-TDA4VM) for edge AI application development.

Kudan has been working to help customers create products that meet their localization and mapping requirements, often within challenging environments, and at the same time reduce the development cycles for faster time-to-market. There has been an increasing demand for edge AI products for robotics applications, especially in autonomous mobile robots.

As a complement to the TI processors for edge AI, Kudan provides commercial-grade visual SLAM software for localization and navigation that seamlessly plug into the TI Processor SDK for Robotics framework. Combined with the available dedicated technical support and ongoing maintenance, TI customers can look to benefit from Kudan’s SLAM algorithm performance and ease of integration into their SDK environment.

In addition to its industry leading tracking accuracy, repeatability, and relocalization speed, Kudan’s optimized Visual SLAM software can deliver up to a 10x improvement in frame processing time, while utilizing 50% less memory, when compared to available open source SLAM software, including ORB-SLAM2.

Combined with the flexibility to support different types of cameras and camera configurations including stereo cameras, active stereo / depth cameras, and monocular camera systems, Kudan’s visual SLAM software is a clear choice when accuracy, robustness and performance matters.
