NASA, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, has been developing different remote sensing tools and solutions for the future exploration of the lunar surface, including the Kinematic Navigation and Cartography Knapsack (KNaCK) for mapping, and use on the next generation of lunar rovers.

Kudan, a leader in advanced SLAM technology, is pleased to announce that NASA has worked with our advanced lidar SLAM software to extend the capabilities of KNaCK in exploration of high resolution 3D point cloud mapping, as well as, developing a rover solution for exploratory navigation and mapping of unknown terrain, culminating in demonstrations meeting or exceeding expectations.

With Kudan’s support, the project demonstrated that SLAM and other related methods can function effectively in environments without GPS, such as on the Moon. Based on these results, NASA plans to further enhance its system to ensure the success and safety of future flight missions.
