										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Kudan has successfully completed a demonstration experiment on autonomous mobility for specialized transport vehicles used in factory operations, in collaboration with a leading Japanese manufacturing company. In this project, Kudan utilized its proprietary technology, Kudan SLAM, achieving high-precision localization with an accuracy of within 10cm, suitable for commercial applications.</p>
<p>In recent years, the aging of drivers and a severe labor shortage have significantly impacted supply chains in developed countries, including Japan. This challenge extends beyond public road transport, affecting intra-factory logistics, and highlighting an urgent need for supply chain optimization. As industries strive to seamlessly connect factory operations with external environments and advance the concept of smart factories, the global demand for autonomous mobility technology is expected to grow substantially.</p>
<p>Amid these circumstances, while the need for efficiency in transport operations is increasing, there remain significant challenges in achieving high-precision autonomous mobility in environments where GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite Systems) is ineffective, such as indoor facilities or hybrid environments spanning both indoor and outdoor areas.</p>
<p>This project also faced similar challenges. While GNSS was sufficient for a certain level of autonomous mobility outdoors, realizing autonomous mobility in indoor or hybrid environments presented technical hurdles.</p>
<p>To address these challenges, Kudan conducted a demonstration experiment using its proprietary artificial perception technologies, Visual SLAM and 3D-Lidar SLAM. The experiment successfully achieved the targeted localization accuracy of within 10cm in indoor environments.</p>
<p>In addition, the following strengths of Kudan&#8217;s SLAM technology were confirmed during this project:</p>
<ol>

Kudan SLAM can be easily retrofitted to existing vehicles and systems, minimizing the need for new investments while enhancing performance</li>
<li><strong>Adaptability to Changing Environments</strong><br />
Even in dynamic indoor environments, such as factories where conditions change significantly due to inventory fluctuations, Kudan SLAM enables high-precision localization using a single pre-generated 3D map.</li>
<li><strong>Scalability of Technology</strong><br />
Kudan SLAM is not limited to indoor environments but can also seamlessly support autonomous mobility in outdoor or hybrid environments, enabling deployment across diverse industrial sectors.</li>
</ol>
<p>Building on these results, Kudan aims to expand the scale of its demonstrations and conduct further verifications in more complex environments, working toward the transition to full-scale operational deployment. Furthermore, Kudan will continue to support operational efficiency in a wide range of industries by leveraging robotics and digital twin technologies, driving innovation to meet societal needs with cutting-edge solutions.</p>

(headquarters in Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; CEO Daiu Ko), a global leader in advanced SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) technology, is pleased to announce that a drone solution provider from Japan, operating for the global market, has decided to commercially release its product powered by Kudan Lidar SLAM (KdLidar).</p>
<p>Aerial 3D surveying using drones is in growing demand in the civil engineering, construction, and infrastructure industries as an efficient and low-cost approach. However, conventional 3D surveying with drones, which are not adopted by SLAM technology but only used by Lidar, cannot perform continuous mapping from the air to the ground in environments where drones cannot fly or GNSS/GPS cannot reach, and this has been an operational challenge.</p>
<p>This product uses Kudan’s SLAM technology and can be generalized as a mapping device that is usable not only mounted on a drone but also hand-held, enabling continuous mapping from the ground by transferring the sensor to a hand-held device, in addition to conventional mapping from the air. As a result, this enables efficient 3D surveying with the same system in forests, civil engineering sites, urban areas, and other environments where a drone alone could not create a comprehensive digital map to the ground.</p>
<p>These cutting-edge projects need software technology that could be flexibly integrated with the hardware configurations required by the customer, and Kudan’s technology, which provides commercial-grade SLAM algorithms for mobile mapping, has been selected. Demand for advanced SLAM technology for mobile mapping, including drones, is growing, and Kudan will continue to contribute to the spread and advancement of mobile mapping products in Japan and globally.</p>

<p>Inertial Labs RESEPI is a robust, reliable, and cost-effective solution for remote sensing applications requiring high quality accurate results. While RESEPI was initially developed for UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle, such as Drones) based remote sensing, Inertial Labs identified growing market demands to expand RESEPI’s capabilities to support a broader range of sensing modalities, including integrating handheld and backpack-based mapping capabilities. The requirement to meet these diverse market demands has led to the pursuit of a more sophisticated and robust SLAM processing engine, setting the stage for a pivotal product development collaboration between Inertial Labs and Kudan.</p>

<p>The release of the mobile mapping dev kit marks the first milestone in the partnership expansion between Kudan and Vecow, as previously revealed in the release &#8220;<a href="https://www.kudan.io/blog/kudan-and-vecow-expand-strategic-partnership-to-address-growing-demands/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Kudan and Vecow Expand Strategic Partnership to Address Growing Demands of Outdoor Autonomous Mobility and Mobile Mapping Applications</a>&#8220;.</p>
<p>The spotlight on SLAM-based 3D mobile mapping has surged in recent years, with its ability to capture 3D data automatically while the mobile platform (such as humans, vehicles, robots, or drones) traverses through the scene. This technology finds a wide range of applications, such as Smart Cities and Urban Planning, ICT-based Construction, Infrastructure Inspection and Maintenance, Stockpile Management in Mining and Quarrying, and Emergency Response and Disaster Management.</p>
<p>Different from TLS(Terrestrial Laser Scanning)-based 3D mapping, which utilizes stationary laser scanners and is time-consuming for capturing precise data of static scenes, SLAM-based 3D mobile mapping has gained market attraction due to its real-time and efficient mapping of vast areas. However, SLAM-based 3D mobile mapping has been in general not as precise as TLS-based approach due to the inherent noise and uncertainties in mobile sensor data. This is why an industrial-grade SLAM, which is capable of multiple sensor fusion, becomes crucial to get closer to the precision of TLS-based approach while still maintaining the benefits of fast mapping.</p>
<p>In the realm of multiple sensor fusion, time synchronization plays a pivotal role in ensuring precise alignment of all sensor data in the temporal domain. This critical process enables the precise association of sensor measurements with corresponding landmarks or features in the environment, effectively reducing errors during data processing. Additionally, time synchronization significantly contributes to achieving invaluable motion estimation and loop closure※ detection, resulting in a marked enhancement in the accuracy, reliability, and overall quality of SLAM-based mapping outcomes.</p>
<p>The jointly developed mapping solution is a back-pack/handheld type of 3D mapping device, which leverages Kudan’s exclusive 3D-Lidar SLAM (KdLidar) with multi-sensor fusion technology, together with Vecow’s rugged VCM-1000F controller for precise time synchronization and efficient computing.</p>

This event will be taking place on 20-23 March at McCormick Place, Chicago, USA.</p>
<p>ProMat is the largest international material handling, logistics and supply chain show and conference featuring over 1,000 leading solution providers, including Kudan. As robotics for intralogistic use cases will be one of main interests for those attending, Kudan will be presenting both its camera-based and 3D Lidar-based “Simultaneous Localisation and Mapping” (SLAM) technology, KdVisual and KdLidar. With the robustness of Kudan’s SLAM, customers can equip their robots with a positioning stack that is able to handle warehouse environments that are typically large and dynamic in nature. This provides companies with the flexibility of not needing to implement infrastructure-based positioning systems which can be costly and time consuming. Companies can quickly change the physical operational workflows of their robots or vehicles as their operations evolve, without needing to reinstall any infrastructure.</p>
<p>We will be demonstrating both single-stereo and multi-stereo visual SLAM (VSLAM) capabilities on our robots at the booth. Customers will be able to see first hand how certain use cases can benefit from having a multi-camera set up on their robots or vehicles. We will be also highlighting our recent <a href="https://www.kudan.io/blog/kdvisual-has-launched-as-part-of-the-latest-release-of-intel-edge-insight-for-amr-platform/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">partnership</a> with Intel in a robot running <a href="https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/docs/ei-for-amr/developer-guide/2022-3-1/kudan-visual-slam.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Intel’s Edge Insight for AMR</a> with Kudan’s KdVisual SLAM software. Intel’s EI for AMRs helps customers to cut down development time through its open, modular Software Development Kit (SDK). The included libraries and middleware allows code to be implemented and deployed to AMRs even if they have multiple hardware configurations.</p>
<p>Customers interested in 3D Lidar SLAM solutions will also be able to view demo robots equipped with Kudan’s KdLidar SLAM software. These robots will be using Kudan’s SLAM to both create a map and navigate themselves autonomously within the booth space. In collaboration with one of our Lidar partners, Hesai, we will be demonstrating our Lidar SLAM software on our robot using the QT128, a certified safety laser scanner qualifying as an ASIL B product under ISO 26262 and can be used in AMR systems classified as ASIL A, ASIL B, and ASIL C. We will also be presenting two Lidar sensors from our partner Robosense &#8211; the ‘RS-Bpearl’, which has a unique 360°×90° super wide field-of-view (FoV) with less than 10cm blind-spot detection area, as well as the ‘RS-Helios’, which has a 70° ultra-wide vertical FoV, fulfilling both long-range perception and near-field blind spot detection needs.</p>

<p>Kudan Inc. This premier event will be held in Denver, Colorado from February 13-15.</p>
<p>In conjunction with Geo Week, Kudan will debut its newly launched mobile mapping solutions to the US market. Event-goers will be able to view and try in-person our handheld and backpack mobile mapping development kits. The kits have been designed to operate in both GNSS-available and GNSS-denied environments and have Kudan’s 3D Lidar “Simultaneous Localization and Mapping” (SLAM) technology embedded to produce accurate 3D point cloud maps.</p>

<p>With these mapping kits, customers are able to easily capture scans of indoor and outdoor environments for the purposes of progress monitoring or inspection for construction projects as well as forest analysis, including biomass estimation, density and maturity or forest thinning planning operations for forestry. The customizable mapping kits also allow for the fusion of GNSS or ground control points to produce geo-referenced point clouds as well as IMU data for enhanced undistortion abilities to produce crisp point cloud scans. For customers that operate in both GNSS-available and GNSS-denied areas, the ability to work in both environments allows for shorter mapping times as users would not need to make multiple mapping rounds to address the risk of drift and noise in the point cloud data.</p>
<p>These mapping kits are also equipped with an easy-to-use user interface that will allow inputting of ground control points and map handling features such as point cloud merging. While customers are able to easily tweak the SLAM parameters when processing the maps, there is also a list of presets available for different environment types which customers can easily choose.</p>

<p>There have been considerable demands for a packaged solution of hardware and our 3D-Lidar SLAM software so that customers can easily get point clouds using our SLAM software. Even though there are existing mobile mapping solutions in the market, some segments of the geospatial industry are looking for a Dev Kit type of solution with better price-to-performance, increased flexibility of parameter configuration, and easier operation for essential functions. We observed that this requirement is prominent in the academic and research sector, and in order to respond to this market demand, we launched our own mobile mapping dev kit.</p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;">The most noticeable advantages of our dev kit are the following.</span></p>
