Artisense published a white paper with HERE Technologies and NNG on AR navigation application for automotive as a stepping stone towards the metaverse
Kudan Inc. (headquarters in Shibuya-ku; CEO Daiu Ko; hereafter “Kudan”), an artificial perception research and development company, is pleased to announce that Artisense GmbH (hereafter “Artisense”), Kudan’s group company, together with NNG and HERE Technologies published a white paper, “Augmented reality guidance based on 6D positioning and HD lanes”, explaining how AR navigation is achieved using SLAM and HD map. This is just one of many potential applications in ADAS (Advanced Drivers Assistance Systems) and safety features Kudan and Artisense can contribute to, such as lane change assist and intelligent speed assist.
See a demo below about how AR navigation looks like:
Augmented Reality Lane-Level Guidance
This white paper is based on Artisense’s collaboration with HERE Technologies and NNG. The section “HD positioning based on visual inertial odometry” describes how Artisense SLAM and visual inertial odometry contribute to this application.
This AR navigation is a key area where many automotive OEMs see value. Mercedes already launched a model with this function last year and others such as Cadillac and Hyundai are planning to install this functionality to differentiate themselves. *

Also, the AR navigation is one of the applications tightly integrating virtual digital map and real-world data to bring unprecedented user experience. This is exactly what the metaverse aims to materialize and the area where Kudan’s SLAM technology contributes.
Kudan and Artisense keep working on this topic as well as other functions in ADAS and safety features to enable automotive tier 1 suppliers and OEMs to realize these functions more reliably.
